The Central General Secretary of the organization Sheikh Wali Asif has expressed regret over the collapse of the stage of the opening ceremony of the 75th founding anniversary of the Chhatra League.

He said the incident happened because more people than expected took to the stage. This incident is completely unwanted and unexpected.

On this Friday afternoon, the opening ceremony of the parade organized on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the Chhatra League was taking place on the stage set up in front of Aparajeya Bangla of Dhaka University.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader was delivering the opening speech when the stage suddenly collapsed around 4:10 pm. Many former and current leaders were injured. Later in the evening, BCL general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif spoke to Prothom Alo about the incident.

Sheikh Wali Asif said, ‘We are very ashamed and saddened by the collapse of the stage. We tried to make the stage proper and strong.

But the incident occurred as more than the expected number of people took to the stage. This incident is completely unwanted and unexpected. We sincerely regret the incident. The decorator who was given the task of making the stage,

we will look into whether there is any deliberate mistake on their part.
The general secretary of the organization said, “For this reason, a few more people than expected always get on the stage. From that thought, I made a stage with a capacity of several hundred people. Even so, such an accident is sad.

Meanwhile, several of the injured people were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital till the evening when the stage of the Chhatra League program collapsed.

Among them are Awami League presiding member Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, President of Independence Physicians Council Jamal Uddin Chowdhury,

Jubo Mahila League General Secretary Sharmin Sultana, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League member Md. Jasim Uddin, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Sheikh Anisuzzaman Rana, executive member of Bangladesh Medical Association.

Javed and the central leader of Chhatra League, Barikul Islam. BCL’s former president Enamul Haque Shamim and former general secretary Gholam Rabbani were also injured in the collapse of the stage, it has been reported.
