Tampa Bay has taken game 1 of the ALDS series against Boston, 4-2. The Rays were led by rookie Randy Arozarena who went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Wander Franco drove in the other two runs for Tampa Bay, scoring both on singles to left field. The
Rays look to go up 2-0 in the series with Chris Archer on the mound against Boston rookie Steven Wright.
Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants have taken game 1 of the NLDS against Chicago, 4-3. The Cubs were led by Mark Gonzales who went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Javier Baez added a solo home run in the second inning for Chicago. The Giants were led by Gregor Blanco who went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Brandon Crawford scored two runs, one on a single to center field by Evan Longoria and the other on a wild pitch from Jake Arrieta.
The Cubs look to go up 2-0 in the series with Kyle Hendricks taking on Johnny Cueto in game 2.
The Minnesota Twins have taken game 1 of the ALDS against Cleveland, 5-4. Both teams were led by rookie bats, but it was Minnesota that got off to a fast start when Carlos Santana hit a two run shot to left center in his first at bat of the series. The Twins tied it up quickly in the second when Byron Buxton launched a home run to left field. Cleveland took a 3-2 lead in the third on a groundout from Francisco Lindor, but Robbie Grossman tied it back up with a solo shot to right, his second homer of the season. Minnesota went back in front in the 5th when Eddie Rosario hit a two run shot to right field. Cleveland got a run back in the 8th on a solo home from rookie Bobby Bradley, but it wasn’t enough as Minnesota hangs on 4-3.
The Twins look to take a 2-0 series lead with Jake Odorizzi on the mound against Corey Kluber.
In NLDS action, Arizona has taken a 1-0 series lead after defeating Chicago 3-1 in 13 innings. The Dbacks were led by Paul Goldschmidt who had three hits and an RBI. David Peralta drove him in with a single to right center that scored Christian Walker, who reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second when Brad Miller mishandled the ball. Walker scored the winning run in the 13th inning when David Dahl hit a solo shot to left field, his fourth home run of the season. Chicago was led by Javier Baez who had two hits and an RBI. Daniel Murphy drove in Baez on a single to right center that scored Anthony Rizzo, who reached first on an error by pitcher Matt Andriese.
The Cubs look to even the series with Jose Quintana taking on Zack Greinke in game 2.
Washington has taken game 1 of the NLDS against Los Angeles, 8-3. The Nationals were led by rookie outfielder Seth Romero who went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. The steal of home in the sixth inning was his first major league stolen base. He also scored two runs, one on a single to center field by Juan Soto that scored Daniel Murphy, who stole second then advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Kiebert Ruiz, and the other on a groundout by Brian Goodwin. Daniel Murphy was once again the driving force for Washington with three hits and two RBIs. Anthony Rendon added three more RBIs with his ninth double of the season, scoring Ryan Zimmerman who reached first on an error by shortstop Erick Salcedo.
