New warning from World Health Organization scientists about monkeypox

New warning from World Health Organization scientists about monkeypox

Currently, the number of infections is doubling every two weeks. So the outbreak may take months to reach its peak.

The European branch of the World Health Organization predicts that by August 2, 27,000 monkeypox patients may be detected in 88 countries.

Currently, 17 thousand 800 monkeypox patients have been identified in about 70 countries.

Scientists say infection is difficult to predict. But the infection can persist for months. Hence, the World Health Organization’s public health emergency over monkeypox may last for several months. – Khabar Express Tribune

“We are facing an outbreak,” said Anne Remoin, a professor of epidemiology at the University of California, Los Angeles. So the opportunity to stop the outbreak of the disease is slowly closing.

The infection is clearly out of control, said Antoine Flaholt, director of the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva. That is, the disease is going out of our control.

Although monkeypox has endemic in various parts of Africa for the past few decades, it has not  given much attention.

But from last May, the disease began to spread outside of Africa. Especially in the European region, the outbreak of the infectious disease has become serious.

Scientists say monkeypox has not killed many people around the world, but the disease continues to spread. Which is bad news.

Mike Ryan, director of emergencies at the World Health Organization, said a new name for monkeypox  chosen. The disease  renamed to ensure that it cannot  used as a weapon by racists.

Meanwhile, the European Union called on the member countries to take more vigorous and coordinated measures to prevent monkeypox.

Earlier, the disease  declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).🔱
