At least 7 people have died due to heavy rains and flash floods in the Middle East Gulf country of the United Arab Emirates. All of these dead are Asians.
However, it is not yet known in detail who are the citizens of the dead people. This information was informed in the statement of the Ministry of Interior of the country on Friday.
The United Arab Emirates, a Gulf country in the Middle East, is largely a desert region. As a result, the climate is dry throughout the year and rainfall is very low.
As such, natural disasters like heavy rains and floods are rare in the country.
But heavy rains on Wednesday and Thursday broke the country’s 27-year rainfall record. According to the Emirates Meteorological Department,
218.8 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Fujaiyah Emirate (administrative region) of the country. Apart from this, even though it has rained all over the country,
- floods have occurred in Fujaiya due to heavy rains. In the Emirate of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.
- Officials of the Ministry of Interior said that more than 4,000 people were trapped in these three emirates due to floods.
- The rescue workers of the disaster management department of the country are continuing the field level activities to rescue them.
Several videos from the country’s social media showed people being rescued from the three emirates.
Due to the heavy rains, floods and landslides were seen in different areas of the Emirates, but the capital Abu Dhabi and the commercial center Dubai received relatively less rain, Khaleej Times said in a report.🔱
