A fire broke out in the Abu Sefin church in Giza, Egypt last Sunday. When everyone is busy trying to survive the fire, an Egyptian Muslim youth has earned the title of hero by rescuing five children from the burning church. 41 people were killed and 14 injured in that incident. Khabar Arab News.
The young man named Muhammad Yahya said, My house is next to that church. Seeing the fire, I ran towards the church. From inside the church I heard the screams of terrified people. Then without a second thought I risked my life and quickly entered the church. At that time I was exposed to a lot of fire and smoke. The situation was reducing vision as well as breathing.
Yahya took off his T-shirt and soaked it in water. Tie it on the nose to facilitate breathing. Then he rescued five children one by one. Later he tried to leave with an old man on his back. But so much water was used in the church to wash away the water that the front of the door became muddy. While crossing there, both of them slipped and fell to the ground. Yahya’s injuries were serious.
Later the doctor said that his leg was broken. He is now undergoing treatment.
Hearing the news of the rescue of the children from the church, everyone began to praise him. Even church priests visited Yahya in the hospital and thanked him for his bravery.
Regarding this tragic accident, it is said in the media that 500 people came to pray in the church. At one point, an electrical fire broke out from the generator used there. When people wanted to leave quickly, 41 people were crushed to death.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The country has formed an investigation committee to look into the cause of the fire.
