The Princess of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum allegedly ordered his ex-wife’s phone to be hacked after he suspected she was having an affair with a British member of Parliament, according to U.K.’s Daily Mail . The paper cited legal papers from the princess’ ongoing divorce case which claim that the ruler became suspicious about her relationship with Douglas (Danny) Haig following reports in the British press back in 2009. “Over the course of months leading up to and after 21st January 2010, I have been informed by a reliable source that HH Sheikh Mohammed instructed individuals working for him at Government level both here and abroad, including members of his own family, to unlawfully intercept my private telephone calls,” said the princess in an affidavit, filed earlier this month at the High Court. According to further information obtained by Daily Mail reporters, Princess Haya allegedly ditched her three children with Sheikh Mohammed and fled Dubai back in February after receiving death threats from people close to her husband. She was later granted temporary custody of the children until a ruling is reached on May 4. The paper then quoted one of the princess’ legal advisers who accused Dubai authorities of being “responsible for hacking into Princess Haya’s private emails and telephone calls” as well as “tapping Sheikh Mohammed’s own telephone.”
“Sheikh Mohammed ordered his wife’s phone to be hacked after becoming suspicious about her relationship with Douglas (Danny) Haig following reports in British press back in 2009,” the source reportedly told Daily Mail .
“Over the course of months leading up to and after 21st January 2010, I have been informed by a reliable source that HH Sheikh Mohammed instructed individuals working for him at Government level both here and abroad, including members of his own family, to unlawfully intercept my private telephone calls,” said the princess in an affidavit filed earlier this month at the High Court.
Haig’s lawyers also allegedly accused Dubai authorities of hacking into their clients’ e-mails which were later sent onto Princess Haya with “untrue and defamatory statements.” According to Haig’s U.K.-based PR representative Keith Bishop , he denied all charges and described them as “baseless allegations.” He added that Haig and Princess Haya had been in a relationship for several years and that their liaison was “well known in royal and diplomatic circles.”
Princess Haya: Dubai Ruler Had Ex-Wife’s Phone Hacked
Haya’s spokeswoman said: “We do not comment on ongoing divorce proceedings.” Sheik Mohammed is yet to speak out on the controversy.
I love how the paper says they haven’t confirmed anything but still report it as fact. It’s almost like they don’t care about getting any of this right.
Considering the source I’m not sure we can say with any certainty that this is actually true. Wouldn’t be the first time someone made up a story just to sell papers.
Interesting, albeit unsubstantiated claims, published by a right wing rag. I’m not sure if the source is reliable, so it’s difficult to give any credit here. There have been other claims about Princess Haia which have also not been substantiated.
Is this newsworthy at all? Seems more like tabloid gossip that you would read in The Sun or something.
Probably just trashy sensationalism.. but good to hear some insight into the human side of Sheikha Haya – sounds like she was trying to fight for her kids and herself, even if it meant co-operating with dubious sources.
Sounds like typical Daily Mail reporting…a few tantalizing details, no real substance to make out whether its fact or fiction.
This is so far removed from the truth, it’s untrue. I was privy to these events as they were unfolding, and HH Sheikh Mohammed has not ordered anyone to do anything illegal with regards to HH Princess Haya. And she was unquestionably in Dubai at the time of the radio interview. Nothing but lies.
I’m surprised that Mahra Al Matroushi hasn’t commented on this one yet considering it directly implicates her husband. Of course with Mahra’s track record for writing things on Facebook that are just blatantly untrue then perhaps we shouldn’t be …but it would be nice for Princess Haya not to have more “alleged” incriminating evidence coming out against her making it even more difficult for her to have a fair fight in this divorce. Princess Haya has been going to the press for a while now… I wonder how long it will be before HH Sheikh Mohammed pops his head out of sand and makes a statement about all the claims being made against him by his wife in public? If nothing else, it’s highly embarrassing when you’re trying to provide evidence that your privacy has been breached to everyone watching from the sidelines!
I wonder what she will be saying once her weight loss secret is revealed?
