Amateur Astronauts to Fly in Orbit

Space exploration has always been a dream of many. Inspiration4 is the first company to offer orbital flights to amateur astronauts, and they are celebrating by announcing their next flight! Inspiration4 will be sending four amateurs into space for an eight-day trip around the Earth. This is Inspiration4’s sixth orbital flight which will take place in 2020. The rocket carrying the amateurs will be launched from Inspiration4’s private spaceport in French Guiana. After two days, they will dock with Inspiration4’s space station where they will spend four days before returning to Earth on July 4th, 2020!

Unfortunately, Inspiration4 has chosen to use an older route of orbit which is more expensive than the newer path that was recently proven by Space X. However, it is important to note that this flight has been tested on Inspiration4’s previous orbital flights including their one-day mission which took place last month. Although there are many commercial companies focusing on providing more efficient services for astronauts wishing to travel into outer space, Inspiration4 remains to their goal of bringing space to the people.

The Inspiration4 rocket will be sent up by their own launch vehicle, the “Inspiration” or IS-1. This rocket uses a combination of solid-and liquid-fueled engines totaling up to 1,000,000 lbs of thrust. With this kind of power, it can carry up to 100 metric tons into lower earth orbit! The tank structure is made from a thick aluminum alloy and the thrusters are hydrogen-burning ion engines.

This Inspiration4 mission features four amateurs which include: Mr. Isamu Yamamoto; Ms. Kyoko Ishii; Ms Rin Tanaka; and Ms Sachi Suzawa (all from Japan). With such an international crew consisting entirely female members this makes them all very happy. Ms. Suzawa said, “I’m very thankful for this opportunity to go into space and carry out a project that I have been preparing for since last year. We will carry out our mission with teamwork and responsibility.”

Inspiration4 also has plans to send five more amateurs to Inspiration4’s orbital space station next year which will include Inspiration4 co-founder Mr. Yoshiyuki Takahashi who was scheduled for this flight but had to be postponed due to a conflict with Inspiration4’s CFO.
